EPDL partners with leading design offices, public agencies, and development teams to embed multi-layered environmental analytics directly into early design workflows. Through these collaborations, we translate our scientific methods-spanning microclimate modelling, energy simulation, solar analytics, vegetation performance, and multi-objective optimisation-into practical design intelligence that informs real projects from their earliest conceptual stages. Working iteratively with architects and planners, we provide rapid scenario testing, KPI-driven design feedback, and optimisation-supported decision-making, enabling teams to evaluate form, density, façade strategies, and nature-based solutions through quantifiable environmental performance. Importantly, we treat this applied work as a research path in its own right: documenting how advanced environmental data is understood, negotiated, and operationalised within real design processes. These reflections allow us to refine our tools, develop new communication strategies, and ultimately shape methodologies that bridge scientific rigour with the practical realities of architectural and urban design. Through this reciprocal exchange, our collaborations generate tangible impact-demonstrating how performance-driven design can become actionable, accessible, and influential in contemporary practice.
